Uniform sizing starts with the garment and the way it will be worn. A player’s usual clothing size is a useful reference, but it should not replace the size chart for the kit you are ordering.

Ask what the measurements mean

Confirm whether the chart shows body measurements or flat garment measurements. These are different methods and should not be used interchangeably. Follow the measurement instructions for the exact uniform style.

Compare a familiar garment

When a chart uses flat garment measurements, a well-fitting uniform can be a helpful comparison. Lay it flat without stretching it, and measure at the same points shown on the chart. Record the measurement unit consistently.

Consider how the kit is worn

Discuss a relaxed or closer fit, jersey and bottom lengths, and any protective equipment worn underneath. Football fit should be considered with pads in mind. Separate youth and adult size categories clearly.

Review every piece

Collect a size for each garment in the package. Review uncertain measurements with your order contact before approval. Ask whether a sample or other fit review is available; the availability and terms should be confirmed for your order.

Keep body and garment measurements apart

A flat chest width measures one side of a garment laid on a surface. A body chest measurement goes around the wearer. Do not compare the numbers directly or double a width unless the selected chart specifically instructs you to do so.

Name the category and the unit

Record the style, garment, youth/adult category and measurement unit on your worksheet. Inches are useful for a US team; centimeters can be used if the same chart and method are followed consistently. A size label alone does not identify the garment’s measurements.

Look after the exact garment you ordered

Follow the care label supplied with the selected fabric and decoration. Sublimated, stitched and other decorated garments may have different requirements. Before washing a complete mixed kit together, check each piece’s washing, drying and heat instructions.

THE MEASUREMENT POINTS

Compare the same part of the garment.

The Fabric & Fit guide illustrates chest width, jersey length, waistband width, outseam and inseam. Use the chosen style’s chart for the actual measurements and the exact starting points.
